Unreleased Dr Dog songs for FREE, all summer long

Unreleased Dr Dog songs for FREE, all summer long

Hey Folks
Happy summer to one and all! Just wanted to give you a little update on the various goings on in the land of Dr Dog. Stretching out the legs and brushing up on our Softball swings.

July is right around the corner and she's full of shows all over the damn place. We're heading out to the west coast on July 9th to play a few shows in California. While we're out there we'll stop in for a song on the Late Late show with Craig Ferguson on July 11th. (I can't tell you many details but I will say that they may let us use a green screen!!!) There are a few festivals too. Most of the stuff is on the site now.

SO... The real news. The real reason I've dusted the computer off and uncovered the phone jack, all for the purpose of writing this one email: Beginning next Monday, July 2nd Dr Dog will begin posting one summer jam after another, free of fees, never before heard, recorded at various times in the last decade, all summer long.

Every Monday we'll post another song, none of them have ever been released, maybe they never will. On your end, all there is to do is listen. Go to weallbelong.net and before your very eyes there will be buttons to click (as per current internet trends) to display the tracks before your very ears.

There is a Fall tour of EPIC proportions in the works so we look forward to seeing everyone soon. Hope you like the tracks, keep cool, have fun!

ArtDontSleep Presents From LA with Love

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

ArtDontSleep Presents From LA with Love—just released on Milan Records earlier this month—was conceptualized by Andrew Lojero, who produces downtown LA’s ArtDontSleep underground parties. For the package, he worked closely with 16 different local musicians to collect new unreleased material from each of them; all the tracks reflect the true nature of the city’s underground music scene. There are selections from various artists like DJ Nobody, Nathan Yell, Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer, Free Moral Agents (which features the keyboardist from The Mars Volta) and many more. Lojero then worked 15 local visual artists including B+, Kozyndan, Blain Fontana, Mike Crivello, Azul 213, Midzt and Kutma to develop a piece of art that was inspired by each song, all of which is featured in the CD booklet.

ArtDontSleep Presents: From LA With Love, which came out June 5, 2007. They had the DJ, Kutmah do a mix of the entire record into an 18 minute version, exclusive for blogs.

You can download the mix at www.milanrecords.com/blogsongs it's called artdontsleepmegamix.mp3.

Note : This CD is not a compilation but a collection of LA’s finest artists.

Design a Dr Dog Shirt

The days of apples and stamps have come and gone. Now summer is here and those shirts are history. Thank you to everyone who wears one.
It's not that we are lazy, but we thought it would be interesting to see what other people would put on a Dr. Dog shirt if given the chance.
Well, here's your chance. Let's see what you've got. We will be taking submissions for our Fall tour T-shirt designs starting......right........now!.

Winning designs will be chosen on July 12. Winners will receive a gift box full of strange and unusual rarities, a few T-shirts, tickets to the next show of choice, and the satisfaction of helping us dummies out by giving us an awesome image to use!

The Northwest Man …you should know him

The Northwest Man started making music maybe a little more than half a year ago, since then he has evolved dramatically writing more and more complex music. One of his earliest songs is 'Brutal Brutal Brutal' which is a fantastic voice only track. He then recorded a 35-minute album entirely in February. It is one continuous track highlighted, I'd say, by the pop classic 'Graph (.32)' the simply amazing classic, 'Park' and the dramatically simple 'Bus.'

Since then he recorded a much more complex 7-song EP called 'Peep-Hole' which will likely be reissued on Awkwardcore, which is a label with whom The Northwest Man recently signed a major deal with.

The Northwest Man currently plans to have another EP out by the end of the summer. He is also a member of a fantastic band called The Whiskers.

Much much much much more music can be heard on:

Elfin Saddle

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

emi honda and jordan mckenzie grew up on opposite sides of the same ocean. somehow the currents were strong enough to carry emi from her home in southern japan to southern vancouver island in canada. emi spent alot of time gardening, collecting and making things. meanwhile, jordan was busy writing music and learning to build sound machines. as the currents grew stronger, they met, at first through art, each recognizing unmistakable similarities in the others work. soon they were playing music together, busking in the streets of victoria. they also began to collaborate in making art installations (often working with scott evans). they recorded far & few, and emi joined jordan's prog-folk/sound project, sound stories. working with rachael wadham, they put together their epic story, the spiral ship, and attemped touring around the pacific northwest. perhaps taking the road less travelled too often to be beneficial, they remained in the peripheries of the music world, rarely being noticed head-on. as things grew quiet, emi and jordan grew restless in victoria and decided to push off to montreal. in the process of moving, they developed a new, compact musical set-up, along with a more stripped down sound. this is now elfin saddle (the name of their favorite wild mushroom).

And a Side Project!
WOODTICK

wood tick is a free-form recording project. the songs are created without any premeditated idea of what they will become. jordan mckenzie began recording like this around 1998-99, which led to "Sound Stories", a project that involed alot of linking of songs and ideas into a semi-narrative. Jordan has been recording alot of objects that happen to be around in the studio: chairs, brass objects, garbage. He hopes to release an album of some of his recent material soon.

The Bowerbirds

"Bowerbirds-- the majestic duo of Beth Tacular and Phil Moore hail from North Carolina.

The bowerbird's long-distance advertising songs are loud vocalizations typically given by a male as he perches in the understory above his bower.

Another good NC band "The Rosebuds" just brought them on thier last tour.

Nick Thorburn (ISLANDS) and Daddy Kev divuldge more info on collab
An appropriate day to announce that Nick Thorburn and Daddy Kev have named their previously secret side-group. From this day forward, the duo will be known as Reefer.

REEFER recording next week
Nick Thorburn (ISLANDS) and Daddy Kev will reconvene next week in a top secret location to record more songs for their upcoming, currently untitled mini-album for Alpha Pup.

Who's Daddy Kev?

Daddy Kev (born July 22, 1974 in Los Angeles) is a prolific producer, recording engineer and record label owner who has contributed to hundreds of musical recordings in the underground hip-hop and electronic genres. His recording studio is known as The Echo Chamber, currently located in Downtown Los Angeles.

Together with Hive and Shaggy, he founded the Celestial Recordings record label in 1998. Their early records included Phoenix Orion's critically acclaimed Zimulated Experiencez album and the Celestial Squadron compilation. They went on to release records by NYC's freestyle phenom Supernatural, featuring a Daddy Kev-produced B-side "Seven Minutes of Understanding" (1999). Kev also produced records by Naptron and Alien Nation, most of the songs characterized by fusing rap with sci-fi samples. His work with AWOL One on Souldoubt (2001) saw Daddy Kev return to a more conventional underground rap context. During this era, Daddy Kev would contribute to a number of genre-defining records, including Sole Bottle of Humans (2000), Mikah 9 Timetable (2001), Abstract Rude P.A.I.N.T. (2001), Prefuse 73 Vocal Studies & Uprock Narratives (2001) and Nobody Soulmates (2001).

Celestial Recordings folded in early 2002, with Hive moving to San Francisco at the helm of Violence Recordings (originally a Celestial imprint), and Kev staying in Los Angeles to focus on production and engineering. This would prove to be a time of intense creativity for Daddy Kev, as a series of ground-breaking albums would be released: Busdriver Temporary Forever (2002), D-Styles Phantazmagorea (2002), AWOL One Slanguage (2003), The Grouch Sound Advice (2003), and Existereo Dirty Deeds & Dead Flowers (2003).

April of 2004 brought Busdriver's Cosmic Cleavage album, released to worldwide acclaim by Big Dada, and produced entirely by Daddy Kev. In July 2004, Kev begins work on Mix Master Mike's Bangzilla album.

Upon the conclusion of work on the Mix Master Mike album, Kev hatches a plan with business manager Danyell Jariel to start a new record label, Alpha Pup Records. By the end of 2004, the label is formed, and Kev begins mixing the label's first release, Paris Zax Unpath'd Waters (2005).

In 2005, Alpha Pup quickly hits its stride, releasing the Paris Zax album to critical acclaim, as well as offerings from Mike Boo, Ricci Rucker, Blackbird, and longtime Kev-collaborator AWOL One. At the same time, Alpha Pup expands its digital distribution agenda, signing labels such as Westbound (Funkadelic, Ohio Players) and Gold Standard Laboratories (Mars Volta, !!!, The Locust) into the Alpha Pup fold. In 2006, Daddy Kev executive produces albums for Subtitle, Daedelus, Scream Club and Acid Reign, all released on Alpha Pup. He also returns to the studio with Busdriver, mixing and recording tracks for RoadKillOvercoat, eventually released to worldwide acclaim on Epitaph in February 2007.

Reefer, a collaborative group with Islands frontman Nick Thorburn, is announced on the Alpha Pup website in April 2007. Currently, a flyer depicting coral reefs is displayed on Daddy Kev's MySpace page with the roman numerals for 2008 underneath.

The Deutsche Guggenheim presents an exhibit by Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang entitled "Head On." The three-part exhibit's most prominent feature is this stream of wolves captured mid-flight on their way to violent collision with a glass wall. Don't worry: No wolves were harmed in the making of this exhibtiion. The 99 life-sized wolf replicas, manufactured in the artist's hometown of Quanzhou, are made out of sheepskin, plastic and wire. Talk about wolf in sheep's clothing.

Ra Ra Riot drummer found dead
John Pike's body found after air and sea search
03.Jun.07 9:07pm

The body of Ra Ra Riot drummer John Pike has been found.

Pike, 23, went missing after leaving a party in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The band played a show in Providence, RI on Friday night and afterwards attended the party in Fairhaven, MA. Pike left the party at 3am.

The search began on foot and by air yesterday around 4pm.

Pike's cell phone was later found in shallow water on a beach about half a mile from the house where the party took place, according to local Fire Chief Tim Francis.

This morning the search was extended, with divers searching the waters in the area.

The body was found around 4pm this afternoon (June 3) in seven feet of water in Buzzards Bay, about 200 yards from where his cell phone was discovered.
