Sunset Rubdown - Black Cab Sessions

From Blackcabsessions.com ....

THERE'S SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT TONIGHT. IT'S A REGULAR 'SUMMER' EVENING IN LONDON: MUGGY, NOISY, A CHILL IN THE AIR…BUT THERE'S A BUZZ TO IT THAT'S GETTING US A LITTLE EXCITED...

WE'RE IN KILBURN, NORTH WEST LONDON, STANDING OUTSIDE THE LUMINAIRE VENUE, WAITING, PREDICTABLY, FOR A TAXI TO SWING BY. BEHIND US, THE CROWD IS ALREADY GATHERING AROUND THE ENTRANCE, 2 HOURS IN ADVANCE, PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THE DOORS TO BE THROWN OPEN AND THE SHOW TO START. HEADLINING IS SUNSET RUBDOWN, ONE OF THIS DECADES, WE RECKON, MOST IMPRESSIVE BANDS. WE HAVE WANTED TO DO A SESSION WITH THEM FOR AN AGE NOW. FINALLY THEY ARE HERE, AND WE HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF PROMOTING THEIR SOLD OUT LONDON SHOW AS WELL AS DOING THIS SESSION.

SPENCER, CAMILLA AND JORDAN MAKE UP 3/5THS OF THE MONTREAL BAND. THE SONG THEY SING, 'YOU GO ON AHEAD' IS A FOLLOW UP TO 'TRUMPET TRUMPET TOOT TOOT' - ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHT TRACKS OF THEIR RECENT ALBUM RANDOM SPIRIT LOVER. IT HAS NEVER BEEN PERFORMED LIVE BEFORE. TEA CUPS AND CASIO KEYBOARDS CLATTER AND HUM, COMPLIMENTING SPENCER KRUG'S FRANTIC GUITAR STRUMMING – ALL CLIMAXING IN A FINALE OF SING-ALONG 'ADD UP' AS WE PULL BACK UP TO THE VENUE'S GATES.

THE SMALL GATHERING OF EARLY BIRD FANS HAS NOW MORPHED INTO A LARGE EXCITABLE CROWD. THESE PEOPLE ARE ABOUT TO WITNESS THE KIND OF SHOW YOU NEVER FORGET. WE ARE STILL BUZZING. IF THIS SESSION CAPTURES JUST A LITTLE OF THE BAND'S GENIUS, WE'D BE CHUFFED.
